Description
This lovely lace shawl features an Irish motif called a Brigid’s Cross
. This is typically made from weaving reeds or straw. I searched for a knitting pattern of a Brigid’s cross and finally designed my own. There are 6 instances of it throughout the shawl and the arms interconnect.
The Brat Bhride
There is an Irish tradition that if you leave a piece of fabric on a bush outside your house on Brigid’s Day eve, that the saint will pass by and bless it. This cloth is known as the brat bhride.
The shawl, when finished, can serve as your own brat bhride, connecting you to ancient sanctity and magical pathways.
